Eyelid Hygiene

Palpebral hygiene is the first and most important step for eyelid cleansing and removal of scabs and secretions.

Palpebral cleansing should be done regularly to avoid relapse and should become a daily routine, such as brushing your teeth.

The skin of the eyelids is the thinnest on the body (0.04 mm thick). In addition, it is in constant motion, as a person blinks about 10,000 times a day, and can be weakened by several factors. Taking into account the delicacy of the skin and in order to achieve a better tolerance, it is important to use non-preservative palpebral cleansing products such as Parpa-Fresh® sterile wipes.

In case of inflammation of the eyelids caused by blepharitis or dysfunction of the Meibomian glands (DGM), palpebral hygiene consists of three phases:

1) Eyelid warming

2) Eyelid massage

3) Cleaning the eyelids and eyelashes

4) Cleaning the palpebral edge

Daily Hygiene, morning and evening. In any case, follow the instructions of your ophthalmologist.

  How to avoid future complications?

Following the right treatment. After getting the diagnosis and having your doctor explain the treatment clearly to you, the rest is up to you. If you follow treatment properly and consistently, in the vast majority of cases you will not feel any discomfort or suffer any complications.

The basis of long-term treatment is PALPEBRAL HYGIENE, although your ophthalmologist may also prescribe a drug, either orally or in the form of drops (collirium or ointment). However, medications are only used in the short term to help control inflammatory flare-ups.

In any case, palpebral hygiene is the real basis for successful treatment, so if it is not carried out in an adequate and systematic manner, it may not be sufficiently effective.

Eyelid Care TIPS

  • Eyelid hygiene is a simple and effective process that should not take more than 15 minutes. Otherwise, consult your ophthalmologist because you may not be doing it correctly. As your ophthalmologist will have told you, if your problem is chronic, regular eyelid hygiene will help you manage it.

  • Constancy is key to avoid the reappearance of symptoms. If you suffer from blepharitis, carrying out this simple process in a systematic way and without adverse effects will help to make the treatment really effective, avoiding having to resort to other treatments with possible adverse effects.
